History and Home
As yet I know not for certain who was the first Meagher/Maher to make the voyage from Ireland to the new world, nor even where exactly in Newfoundland he landed. The Seary guide shows an Edward Meagher in the Bonavista bay area in the early 18teens who would apparently in time wind up in the Gambo area. My own research to date shows an Edward on Flower's Island in the early 1830's, Patrick at Greenspond (where he still has descendants even today) around 1860's-70's, and William at Burnt Island in the 1880's. From what I gather the three men were related though I've yet to correctly ascertain the relationship between them, nor can I say if the latter three are connected to the formerly mentioned Edward.
